This problem stems from a change in the way we retrieve licensing for our ActiveX controls. In versions prior to Version 2.0.8 SP4, we obtained license keys from LIC files located in the same directory as our ActiveX components. To make development and deployment testing easier, we moved the license keys to the Windows registry in the newer version of our ActiveX components.
If you do not have the correct system permissions on your system, you may run into problems using our controls with this new licensing method. There is a bug in version 2.0.8 SP4 of our ActiveX components that requires you to be logged in as an administrator of the local computer. The Version 2.0.4 SP4 components try to open a key in HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE in read/write mode, so if you do not have write permissions for the Windows registry, a licensing error will occur. The workaround is to add yourself to the administrators group of your local computer or to have your local system administrator do this for you.
We have permanently fixed the problem in our Version 2.0.9 SP5 Beta 1 and higher versions by opening the key in HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE in read-only mode. You can download the updated ActiveX components in our Beta Test Section or in our Download Updates Section when the SP5 release is official.
Please Note: this is not a problem with any version of our components at Run-Time . This is a Design-Time problem only under Windows NT4/2000/XP. Since Windows 95/98/ME do not have Windows Registry Security, this problem will not occur under these operating systems
